TRANSTHORACIC ECHOCARDIOGRAM

 A test that uses sound waves to study the size and motion of the heart and valves. An ultrasound transducer is placed over the chest is used to assess the heart. Allow up to 45 minutes.

EXERCISE STRESS ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

A test that is given while a patient walks on a treadmill to assess the heart during exercise. Breathing, blood pressure and ECG are monitored. Ultrasound images of the heart are performed before and after exercise. A stress test may be used to detect coronary artery disease, assess arrhythmias or determine safe levels of exercise following heart attack or heart surgery. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that are suitable for exercise. It will take up to 60 minutes to perform. Some medications are temporarily stopped 48 hours before the test – please check with your referring doctor.
